Exploring Ranthambhore National Tiger Reserve: A Pictorial Journey

Located in Sawai Madhopur, surrounded by hills, is one of the largest tiger national parks in Rajasthan. The park was formerly the Maharaja’s hunting ground for tigers, leopards etc. Since it became a protected reserve, there are currently almost 71 tigers in the reserve (2021).

The reserve covers 1734 square kilometres, accommodating 25 males and 25 females and 21cubs as per the National Tiger Conservation Authority. There are ten safari zones in National Park. A fixed number of designated tour vehicles are allowed in the park, either morning and/or afternoon session each day. These are organised Jeep safari tours for anyone wishing to “spot a tiger”; of course, there are no guarantees.

Of the seven times, I have taken tour groups to India (including Ranthambhore); I have only seen tigers three times! Inside the park there is a 10th century Fort, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
